Car just sorta stopped running

Post by LH95sohc »

So im driving down the road in my car, and everything seemed to be fine, and then all of a sudden, something pops and my car loses all compression and then dies, and I cant get it started back up. Me and my friends tried jumping it, but that didnt work. So Idk what the hell is wrong, when I turn the ignition my belts would still turn but the engine wouldnt turn over. Any ideas on what could be wrong

timing belt... basically, your cam is no longer turning, thats why the car wont start. i dont think the neon valvetrain is an interference design, so all you should need to do is replace the timing belt itself. not a fun job, but not impossible to do yourself.

Neon motors are interference, if the timing belt left the party expect to replace valves.

welp verdict is in and here is what happend, my timing belt somehow wrapped itself around my camshaft (god knows how that happend), um all 16 of my valves are bent, my whole head is fucked up, the water pump needs to be replaced, my tentioner broke. Grand total...... oh only about 2000 bux, oh yea and did I mention I just got my shit outta the shop two weeks and 2000 dollars ago for a new clutch and t/o bearing so Ive spent over 4000 dollars in two weeks for that god damn car...

Don't spend the $2000 on fixing the head, buy another Neon with that money. Don't take offence to this as I don't know how nice the car is, but is it even worth $2k running? The dude I sold my '98 highline to sold it for $1800 in great shape so I know you should be able to find something.

buy the parts and do it yourself. its not impossible, and you could throw a magnum head on there instead of another plain ol sohc head.
